Abstract: Formaldehyde as an indoor pollutant is harmful to human health even with a very low content in the atmosphere. It can be removed through catalytic oxidation, and Pt/TiO2 proved to be a potential catalyst and can be operated at low temperature and high space velocity. To understand the mechanism of catalytic oxidation of formaldehyde over Pt/TiO2, the intrinsic kinetics of reaction was investigated in a fixed-bed plug flow differential reactor at atmospheric pressure. A power law rate equation was established as r=1.87×107 exp(-47.50×103/(R×T))×c1.27HCHO, which gave a good correlation to the experimental results.
